intermediate computer-aided design and drafting module information

Student and Teacher Preparation.  Assume students have completed basic CADD course or have elementary CADD knowledge.  Consider presenting CETA's elementary Computer-aided Design and Drafting module as a introduction to this intermediate-level CADD module.  Instructors should have good working knowledge and experience with engineering drawings and CADD application software.

Teacher may have to create an AutoCAD template for the class exercises.  Name the template to be consistent with the exercise instructions in this unit.

Software. This module uses Autodesk AutoCAD application software to teach drawing principles.  Educators may be eligible to obtain limited-use copies of AutoCAD 2002.  Send a request to the California Engineering and Technology Association.

Textbook:  References Basic CADD Workbook?

Facilities and Materials.  Availability of computers lab and AutoCAD software application.  Teachers will require at least one desktop computer for each student. Network with broadband ISP is recommended.

Recommendations.   Students should be able to work through most of the projects from the daily lesson guide sheet and instructor's examples in class.  Students should have access to computers after class to complete assignments.

Many of the exercises can be drawn manually.  Have students sketch the exercise drawings, many of which are presented on grid paper excellent for sketching. The AutoCad drawings open with Adobe Illustrator, so all the drawings can be presented without AutoCADD.
